A few years ago I could not run the length of three houses in my neighborhood. I know. I tried. I was over 40, over weight and over whelmed at how to get off the path on which I found myself. In the time since, I have 7 marathons, 22 half marathons and 4 half-ironman events under my feet. I'm not fast. My "race" philosophy is to take my time on the course to get the better value for my race dollar. I thank volunteers. Encourage others as I pass them but more than often, when they pass me.
My journey started with an afternoon at The Hermitage, a few supporting friends and something affectionately known as “slacker mail”.
Along the way, I have written about my experiences. My short stories are candid, humorous, sometimes inspirational and frequently mortifying. Above all else, they humanize what can be a daunting process to begin. They are a look at the in between the “before and after”.
I share my journey in the hopes of encouraging just one person that it is never too late to move more than you did the day before. That's all it takes to start. With each step you become a more healthy person inside and out.
